The fruitcake eating contest during the Santa Claus Christmas Celebration at Lake Rudolph Campground in Santa Claus, Indiana is one example of the extremes some people will go to in order to dispose of unwanted fruitcake.
This also demonstrates the apathy of the general public to the problem of fruitcake proliferation: only 3 participants stepped up to the plate. (I heard you groan- sorry about that.)
